life lessons

24 is an awkward yet wise age. This number sounds heavy and more so, the baggage it gives from the society makes it plausible. You start to look back on the times you’ve spent with people who were literally there for you. There are those who stab you in the back, those who stand for you miraculously and those who never return back.

At 24, you realize that maybe you haven’t stopped loving people but more so, you have lost trust in them and you begin to learn if you can really love someone just for a moment, without trusting them, believing that you can even take a bullet for them.

Sometimes at 24, you retreat yourself into a cocoon again and refuse to come out of it because you are so done with those who constantly are out there to drain your energy and bring you no good.

Lesson 1

At 24, you voluntarily avoid the people you love and hurt yourself by hurting them and don’t know the reasons behind your actions. You escape. You start doing things you never thought you would do. Your cocoon becomes ever so stronger and maybe you become weaker than ever from inside.

And sometimes tragically at 24, your 20’s begin afresh with the new challenges and curve balls. Avoid, Do, Read, Learn, Accept, Move On and look out for a fresh change at 24.

  1. Pleasing people account for your own failure.
  2. Watch out for those who don’t applaud your achievements.
  3. Ignore the constant pulling you down remarks. They are not worth it.
  4. Ignoring negativity is no sign of an optimist.
  5. Stay away from those who always want to have ‘the last word’.
  6. If you feel they drain your energy, learn to ignore them.
  7. Seek what is seeking you.
  8. Recall back your day every night.
  9. Keep a journal.
  10. Travel as far as you can, as much as you can.
  11. Ignorance is truly a bliss!
  12. Respect everyone’s individuality.

  13. Judge but don’t hate! There’s a difference!
  14. There will be great days.
  15. There will be awful days too.
  16. Respect yours and others choices.
  17. Lend an ear to a person in need.
  18. Meet people Face To Face.
  19. Write every day. You need not publish it.
  20. The world you see is a reflection of you.
  21. Even your closest friends will hurt you at some point in time.
  22. Don’t stay in the past. It will not bring any good.
  23. Invest in genuine friendships.
  24. You can always go on a long walk after a bad day!

When we enter this world, little are we aware that we have already been given a name, race, respect, religion, caste and other few initials and patterns that we carry around with us as baggage all through our lives!

Anyway, we are not going to be beating around the bush here! We make our way towards school which is the first step in our connection to the world. Real or Unreal we will discuss that later.

We learn to hold that pencil and scribble vowels on the notebooks and funny images on our house-walls. We learn to walk, talk, eat, chew and what not. Having learned all these lessons at home first, we march towards that gate of school which is the temple of our learning.

It is a place where we meet those who influence our lives for the rest of it. Teachers, friends and even bullies. School leaves us with those memories that are cherished forever and can never be erased. The most crucial stages of growing up are the teenage days.  Where world becomes our own stage and us sixteen or seventeen-year-olds treat ourselves as the best debutants.

Here’s a checklist of lessons that one should abide by when he is passing through these poignant days of growing up.

You don’t have it all figured out.

You might look around and think that everyone else has got it all, but they don’t. They are good at being in the crowd and even being a blender. You might as well think that they are watching the right movies, listening to the famous songs and trying on the best clothes at slumbers! Don’t measure yourself by others. Just don’t! Believing and hating popular things doesn’t make you stand out. Remember, you aren’t on the same timetable as someone else. You are not expected to live life in the same order as them either.

Don’t Become a Peer Pressure’s Prey!

Peer Pressure as the name suggests is a prey. Don’t fall for wrong advice and especially don’t fall for suggestions and opinions of those who look down upon you. You don’t need to worry about not having had a boyfriend/girlfriend and thinking you’re the only one who doesn’t carry the tag of a committed relationship. Embrace your individuality. You have a whole life ahead of you to try out these things.

You are not weird

No matter how deserted or isolated you feel in a group, know this that you are not at all weird. Embrace your uniqueness and be proud of it. Whatever you are thinking or experiencing at a certain time in life is not specific to you. We all have been there and we all face low-brows and meltdowns at some point of time in life.

A character is Important & Imperative!

Personal integrity is a thing you’ll have to maintain for the rest of your life. Embrace it and treasure it for your own self for nobody else can make it up for you. Make your own grounds, beliefs and follow what your influencers, teachers and parents say. Go deep in courage to do the right thing. Go deep in modesty. Go deep in individuality. Be your own confidant!

Be thankful and be humble!

At the end of the day, it’s all about perspective. Be grateful for all the blessings that have been showered upon you and thank others and the Almighty for them.

Love Yourself – For this time will never come back!
